Biography

Billie Joe Armstrong is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter in the American punk rock band Green Day. He is also guitarist and vocalist for the rock band Pinhead Gunpowder and songs of garage rock band Foxboro Hot Tubs.

In 1987 he startet the band Sweet Children with best friend Michael Ryan Pritchard aka Mike Dirnt. When was John Kiffmeyer aka Al Sobrante drummer in the band. The name Green Day they were after Al Sobrante had it written on his jacket. They got their first record deal with Lookout! Records the same year and released 1,039 / Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. So Al Sobrante left the band to go to College, and was eventually replaced by Frank Edwin Wright III, aka Tré Cool that made its debut on their second album, Kerplunk!. Green Day was eventually awarded a record deal with Reprise Records and released Dookie in 1994. This was the album that made them world famous. The album sold 10 million copies in the United States.

Billie Joe is also a member of the slightly lesser known bands Foxboro Hot Tubs and Pine Head Gunpowder. There has been little doubt that Armstrong has been busy in the music world: He has co-written for The Go-Gos ("Unforgiven"), sung by Penelope Houston ("The Angel and The Jerk and" New Day "), co- written a song with Rancid ("Radio"), sung background vocals with Melissa Auf der Maur on Ryan Adams "Do Miss America", and recorded lead guitar with Green Day for 2 songs, they were back-up band for Iggy Pop on his "Skull Ring" album. Armstrong has also produced an album with The River Dales, and it has also been claimed that Billie will be a member of the band The Network.

Billie Joe met his wife Adrienne Nesser in Minneapolis. They went on a date together at a time, before they were married on 2 July 1994. The day after the wedding Adrienne found out she was pregnant. Their first son, Joseph "Joey" Marciano Armstrong, was born in February 1995. Three years later, on 12 september 1998, another boy, Jakob Danger Armstrong, was born.

He also started his own record company, Adeline Records, with his wife Adrienne Armstrong and some friends.
