Bruce Springsteen (born in Long Branch, New Jersey, United States) is an American rock musician, guitarist, singer and songwriter. Springsteen is internationally known for its mix of engaged rock music, poetic lyrics and his moods of Americana centered around the home state of New Jersey. Springsteen has toured and recorded discs, mainly with his group E Street Band, but also alone and with others musicians.

Springsteen's recordings have consisted of both commercially available rock album and more melancholy folk-oriented works. When he debuted with the folk-like Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ (1973), he was compared to Bob Dylan and Van Morrison. The breakthrough album Born to Run (1975) represented a new intensity, and has been described as groundbreaking. By The River (1980), he continued to portray the American working class daily life, while the low-key, acoustic Nebraska. (1982) showed a more melancholy side of him. His biggest commercial success is Born in the USA (1984) with seven single sheets. With records like The Ghost of Tom Joad (1995) and We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006), he highlighted his ties to the politically engaged American folk music, while The Rising (2002) was an attempt to give voice to despair after 11 terrorist attack september 2001. He has been involved in several political issues, such as nuclear opposition and support for Amnesty International, and supporting the last two Democratic presidential candidates John Kerry and Barack Obama.

He has sold more than 65 million albums in the United States and 200 million worldwide, and has received many awards: twenty Prices Grammy, two Golden Globe awards and one Academy Award. Springsteen in 2004 was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the 23 greatest musician of all time on the magazine's list of the 100 greatest artists.
