Biography

Christopher John Dodd (born in Connecticut, USA) is an American politician. He was a senator from Connecticut from 1981 to 2011, and belongs to the Democrats. He was a candidate to win the Democratic Party nomination as its candidate for presidential elections in 2008, but resigned on 3 January 2008 after his poor performance during the nomination elections in Iowa, where he won support from less than one percent of the nominating constituencies.

Christopher Dodd comes from the Irish-American background and is Catholic. His parents were Senator Thomas Joseph Dodd and Grace Murphy Dodd. His brother, Thomas J. Dodd Jr.. Are emeritert professor from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and has been U.S. ambassador to Uruguay and Costa Rica under President Bill Clinton.

Christopher Dodd began the jesuittdrevne boys' school Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Maryland, and continued at Providence College (degree in English literature in 1966), and - after two years in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic - he began at the University of Louisville where he took doctorate in law. He married in 1970 with Susan Mooney (divorced in 1982). In 1973 he became a lawyer in New London, Connecticut. Dodd married Jackie Marie Clegg in 1999.

Dodd announced 5 January 2010 that he would not stand for re-election in the congressional election of 2010.
