He is best known for his role as Superman (Clark Kent) in four films from 1978 to 1987.In 1995, Reeve paralyzed after a riding accident and spent the rest of his life confined to her wheelchair. He was an advocate for the disabled and for stem cell research. Reeve made his breakthrough as an actor in 1975, when he starred opposite Katharine Hepburn in the Broadway theater piece A Matter Of Gravity. The play went for a year, Reeve received good reviews and was a close friend of Hepburn. Reeve continued to play theater, and was in a soap opera on TV. In 1977 he played his first role in a Hollywood film, and the following year he was chosen to portray Superman on the big screen. The first Superman movie was a huge success and gave inspiration to three sequels, Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Reeve has also had several appearances in the TV series Smallville (TV series) as Millard honor Dr. Virgil Swann. In the years that followed, Reeve played in several major films. He also had a political commitment, and went in 1987 to Chile, which was ruled by dictator Augusto Pinochet, to show their solidarity with the many actors and writers who had been threatened with death because of his leftist political views. He got them on board his plane and brought them to safety. Reeve received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
