George Vancouver was born in England in 1757. He was only 41 years old and died in 1798, but still managed to get his name in history.

Vancouver was a naval officer and explorer. Already in the age of 13 he entered the Navy and took part in James Cook's second and third expedition around the world. In 1791 he led an expedition to explore North America's Pacific Coast. He spent three years on this task.

George Vancouver was the first to sail around the Big Island of Vancouver Island, along with the city of Vancouver would later make his name. Actually the name comes from the van Coevorden, a family from the town of Coevorden in the northeastern Netherlands.
