Biography

She had her international breakthrough in 1966 with the film Persona directed by Ingmar Bergman. Ullmann has held senior roles in nine films by Bergman, with whom she has a daughter, Linn Ullmann author. Nominated for an Oscar twice, for the roles of Emigrants (1971) and face to face (1976). She was also nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in an American layout of contents of "A Doll's House" on Broadway. She later played the lead role in Richard Rodgers' last musical "I Remember Mama" in 1979. Previously, she had played in the Burt Bacharach musical film version of "Lost Horizon", where she was dubbed. In recent years, Ullmann has a new career as a film director. She is also known as the author of several autobiographical books, written in the 1970s, which attracted international attention.

Liv Ullmann was born in Tokyo and grew up in Trondheim. She now lives in Florida. She received the Anders Jahre Culture Prize in 1996, the Norwegian Arts Council award in 1997 and in 2005 she was appointed Commander with Star of the Order of St. Olav. Ullmann is an officer of the French Order of Arts and Literature.
