Biography

Papadimos Loukas (Greek: Λουκάς Παπαδήμος) is a Greek economist, a former Governor of Greece and Vice President of the European Central Bank. Papadimos received (10 november 2011) the mission to form a coalition government in Greece to be an interim government until new elections can be held in February 2012.

Papadimos was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States. He graduated with bachelor's degree in physics, master's degree in electrical engineering and doctorate in economics. Papadimos work from 1975 to 1984 at Columbia University in the United States. From 1988 to 1993 he was at the University of Athens. He has also been affiliated with Harvard University and Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universitšt Frankfurt am Main. In 1985 he was chief economist at the Greek central bank, where he became Governor in 1994. In 2002 he left the Greek Central Bank and was vice-president of the European Central Bank. In 2010 he returned to Greece and was an adviser to Prime Minister Papandreou.

Papadimos is a member of the Academy in Athens.
