Biography

Margaret Ruth "Margot" Kidder is a Canadian-American actor, best known for her role as Lois Lane in the Superman movies where she starred with actor Christopher Reeve colleague.

Kidder actively supported the presidential candidate Jesse Jackson during the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984. Kidder was involved in a serious car accident in 1990 and after this accident she was unable to work for two years which meant that she got more serious economic problems. Kidder has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which led to major media coverage after she had a manic episode in 1996. When Kidder had been found in the woods of Los Angeles police in a very distressed state and she was thus placed in forced psychiatric care.

Kidder applied to become an American citizen on 17 august 2005 while she lived in the state of Montana. Previously she had managed with a nationality from Canada. She said that the reason for her decision to become a U.S. citizen was to participate in American electoral processes, to continue her protests against U.S. intervention in Iraq and be free of worries about being deported back to Canada.

A nude photo of Kidder, which was photographed by Douglas Kirkland was published in the March 1975 issue of Playboy. In the accompanying article was written about her was that she had more and more curves than Pacific Coast Highway.

Kidder has over the years had a relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and director Brian DePalma. She has altogether been married and divorced three times: to the American writer Thomas McGuane (as she had her only child, daughter Maggie in 1976), with actor John Heard and the French film director Philippe de Broca. Each of these marriages did not last much longer than one year. She has two grandchildren named Mazi & Charlie Kirn is from her daughter's marriage to writer Walter Kirn.
