Michael Fred Phelps II (born in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American swimmer and the most successful Olympics with 14 gold medals (as of 19 august 2008). He was in the Summer Olympics 2008 25 world records (including relays). Phelps' achievements include a record eight gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. It is a gold more than the legendary record of Mark Spitz Andrew of seven gold medals in a single Olympics, the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972. It is also just as many medals in a single Olympics as Aleksandr Ditjatin received in 1980. [1] Phelps also has seventeen gold medals (long tract) and a World Cup gold (STOL). His international titles, along with all his world records, have resulted in that he was named World Swimmer of the Year three times in 2003, 2004 and 2006.
