Natalie Portman (born as Natalie Hershlag in Jerusalem, Israel) is an Israeli born American actress.
She got her breakthrough as a twelve year old in the movie Léon in 1994. Later she starred in many blockbusters, is one of the most promising and sought-after actresses in Hollywood. She played such role as "Padmé Amidala" in Star Wars movies, and has also played in other films like Garden State, Heat, Cold Mountain, V for Vendetta, Closer, Black Swan and Thor. She won a Golden Globe and was nominated for both Oscar and BAFTA for her role in Closer. Portman also won the Golden Globe as Best Actress for her role in Black Swan and the Oscar for Best Actress for the same role during the Oscar 2011.
Natalie's family are Jews who emigrated from Poland, Romania, Austria and Russia. Her father is a doctor and her mother is a homemaker, who now works as her agent. In 2010, Portman was engaged to the French choreographer Benjamin Millepied whom she met on the set of Black Swan. In June 2011 they became parents of a boy they named Aleph. In 2013 she returns to the screen after birth, with the films Knight of Cups, Lawless (both directed by Terrence Malick) and Thor 2 In the latter, she will repeat the role of Jane Foster, the thunder god Thor, human boyfriend.
