Biography

Nicholas Charles Sparks is a bestselling American author. He writes novels with themes related to faith, love, tragedy and fidelity. He has 16 published novels and lives in New Bern, North Carolina, with his wife Catherine and their five children. His novels tend to be romantic stories where the main characters do not experience a typical happy ending.

Sparks is the son of Patrick Michael Sparks (a professor) and Emma Marie Sparks. He has a brother, Michael Earl Sparks (1964 -), and a deceased sister, Danielle Sparks (1967-2000). The main character in the novel "Wonders Time" is based on Danielle.

Because his father had post-graduate studies when Nicholas Sparks was a child lived in Minnesota, Los Angeles and Grand Island, Nebraska, all before the age of eight years. 1974 settled his family eventually settled in Fair Oaks, Calif., where Nicholas was in middle school / high school. He graduated in 1984 as top student from Bella Vista High School and then started at the university, the University of Notre Dame, where he had received an athletic scholarship. Sparks met his wife Catherine (New Hampshire) during spring of 1988. They married in July 1989 and lived in Sacramento. Sparks has used four of his children's names as the main characters in his books, Miles and Ryan in A Bend in the Road (Miles Ryan), Landon in A Walk to remember (Landon Carter), Savannah, Dear John (Savannah Lynn Curtis).
