Biography

Nobuo Uematsu is a Japanese video game music composer and musician, best known for having created the music for several Final Fantasy games. He is one of the most famous and respected composers in the video game. Uematsu is a self-taught musician. He learned to play piano when he was eleven or twelve years old, with Elton John as his biggest influence.

Uematsu began to work for Square (later Square Enix) in 1986, where he became famous for composing the music for Final Fantasy series. After almost 20 with the company, he left Square Enix in 2004 and founded his own company, Smile Please. He has since composed music mainly developed by Square Enix and Mistwalker.

Various soundtracks and arranged albums from Uematsus video game music has been released. As a result of his success, several of his songs have been performed in concerts worldwide. Uematsu formed a rock band called The Black Mages in 2003, playing arranged rock versions of his compositions.
