Biography

Ralph Nader is an American politician and activist. He is a lawyer.

Nader did in 1965 in the nation's attention after he released a report that showed that the automotive industry systematically lowered the security requirements in order to reduce prices and sell more cars. He was also the first explicitly introduced the thesis that multinational companies deliberately make small durable consumer goods that consumers should be forced to act more and more. This inspired a number of young activists who would eventually become known as Nader's Raiders.

The result of this, the organization Public Citizen, which currently has over 140 000 members working in fields such as energy policy, trade policy, political transparency, consumer protection, medical malpractice and public health. He has also created a number of independent organizations working in adjacent fields.

In recent years, Nader might have been best known for his political ambitions. Already in 1972 it was considered to exhibit him as a candidate, but it did not happen. In 1990 he was considering starting a new party because of what he called the Democrats' bankruptcy. The presidential election in 1992 was held on a write-in campaign in New Hampshire, who gave him about 6,300 votes.

First, in 1996 he became Green Party presidential candidate, but without being a member of the party. He did, however, only set in a few states because of a law that favors the two major parties, and ended up in 4th place with 0.7% of the vote.

In 2000, however, the party an opportunity to exhibit in several states, and Nader ended up on 3 place with 2.74%. Democrats, whose candidate Al Gore went to a narrow defeat to George W. Bush, after Nader accused of having "stolen" Democratic voters and thus, the Bush victory. This argument was specifically recognized in Florida, where the official results gave Bush 536 more votes than Gore, while Nader received 99,658 votes. On the other hand, there were about eight other presidential candidates in Florida who also received more than 536 votes. Is "theft" claim the right, there are far more suspect than Nader.

With a similar argument therefore chose Green Party in the election in 2004 not to ask the "tilt States." This could not accept Nader, and stood thus as independent candidate, which caused problems in several states. In Indiana, he was, for example, refused to because of the unwritten rules. In some states, he also asked a candidate for United States Reform Party, a center-right party that was against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and who chose to give Nader a place in the states they had set up right, in spite of political disagreements. This time Nader was also third in the election, but only 0.5% of the vote.
