Film Context
In the movie, Paul's grandpa, J. Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer), is portrayed as a parsimonious billionaire oil magnate who, in spite of being the richest man in the world, refuses to pay his grandson's $17 million ransom. The remaining $2 million is collected by Gail by offering her personal belongings and taking a loan.
