The fledgling romance between Nick, a playboy bachelor, and Suzanne, a divorced mother of two, is threatened by a particularly harrowing New Years Eve. When Suzanne's work keeps her in Vancouver for the holiday, Nick offers to bring her kids to the city from Portland, Oregon. The kids, who have never liked any of the men their mom dates, are determined to turn the trip into a nightmare for Nick.

"Are We There Yet?" is a family-oriented funny film directed by Brian Levant. Released in 2005, it stars Ice Cube as Nick Persons, Nia Long as Suzanne Kingston, and Aleisha Allen & Philip Bolden as Lindsay and Kevin Kingston respectively. The story revolves around Nick's effort to romance Suzanne, a separated mother of two kids, which develops into a disorderly trip with her two naughty children.

Plot
The movie starts with Nick Persons, a bachelor who runs a sports memorabilia store, falling for Suzanne Kingston, a divorced party coordinator who also takes place to be among his clients. Nevertheless, Suzanne's two kids, Lindsay and Kevin, are dissatisfied about their moms and dads' divorce and are not looking forward to a potential stepfather. They're understood for frightening her possible partners, a truth Nick is uninformed of.

Suzanne needs to leave town (Vancouver) for a business journey in New York during the New Year vacations. She prepares to take her kids; nevertheless, scenarios abruptly change and they are left house in Vancouver while she's in New York. In an effort to win Suzanne's heart, Nick volunteers to accompany the kids to New York.

Chaotic Road Trip
Nick's road trip begins on a wrong foot as Suzanne's kids are identified to dislike him and mess up all his efforts. Their antics include destroying his treasured Lincoln Navigator, assaulting him with a secret allergy, and leaving him stranded in the wilderness amongst lots of other trials. Throughout the journey, Nick's perseverance and determination are checked to the limitation.

Nick's inspirations are initially misinterpreted by the kids, which causes more conflict. However, as they progress on their journey, they have different misadventures and encounters, consisting of handling a hostile trucker, a corrupt vehicle mechanic, and a fight with a wild deer. These occurrences, while discouraging, slowly reveal Nick's caring nature and lead to the kids beginning to like him.

Finale - A Happy Ending
Upon reaching New York, regardless of all the chaos and tension, Nick, Kevin, and Lindsay lastly understand each other better. Nick's authentic care for the kids during the trip encourages Suzanne of his love towards her household. Pertaining to their mom's rescue, the kids expose their newfound respect and approval of Nick as a prospective stepfather. Consequently, Nick proposes to Suzanne to which she gladly agrees, resulting in a warm and pleased ending.

"Are We There Yet?" is a heartwarming comedy teeming with slapstick humor and family dynamics. Its beauty lies in the understanding and bonding that unfolds in between Nick and Suzanne's kids throughout the turbulent trip. Albeit foreseeable, the film touches upon familial bonding, parent-child relationships, and the efforts one wants to make for love. With its mix of humor and touching minutes, "Are We There Yet?" goes beyond into a wonderful journey that is far more about the characters' personal development and less about the destination.
