Plot Overview
"Captain America: Civil War" kicks off with an Avengers operation in Lagos, Nigeria, aiming to stop Brock Rumlow from stealing a biological weapon. The objective results in collateral damage when Wanda Maximoff accidentally causes an explosion that eliminates several civilians. This awful occasion results in the intro of the Sokovia Accords, aimed at establishing a United Nations panel to oversee and control the Avengers.

Tony Stark/Iron Man, guilt-ridden over the casualties in Lagos and the previous Ultron debacle, supports the Accords, believing that their actions should be kept in check. However, Steve Rogers/Captain America fears that the Accords would jeopardize the Avengers' capability to autonomously protect the world. The Avengers become fractured, with some siding with Stark and others aligning with Rogers.

The scenario further escalates when the UN summit in Vienna, convened to ratify the Accords, is bombed, eliminating King T'Chaka of Wakanda. The wrongdoer seems Bucky Barnes, Rogers' youth friend and previous brainwashed Hydra representative, referred to as the Winter Soldier. T'Chaka's son, T'Challa, promises vengeance as the Black Panther and joins Stark's faction.

Rogers, thinking in Barnes's innocence, tracks him down and discovers that he was framed by Helmut Zemo, a Sokovian seeking to avenge his family's death throughout the Avengers' fight with Ultron. Regardless of Rogers's efforts to bring Barnes in quietly, they are both considered fugitives for disobeying the Accords.

As tensions rise, Stark assembles a team to capture Rogers and Barnes, resulting in a showdown between the Avengers at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The fight showcases an accident of superpowers and ideologies however culminates with Rogers and Barnes leaving to pursue Zemo, while the rest of Rogers's group is put behind bars.

Climax and Resolution
The climax happens at a Hydra center in Siberia, where Zemo reveals his real intentions. He plays a recording showing that the Winter Soldier, under Hydra control, eliminated Stark's moms and dads. Enraged, Stark turns on both Barnes and Rogers, leading to an intense battle where obligations are checked, and relationships are fractured.

Regardless of their personal fight, Rogers disables Stark's armor and leaves with Barnes, leaving his guard as a symbolic resignation from his role as Captain America. Zemo is captured by T'Challa, who overhears his confession and decides not to let revenge consume him, unlike his foes.

In the movie's resolution, the Avengers are left divided. Stark supplies aid to an injured Colonel James Rhodes/War Machine, who was paralyzed throughout the airport battle. Rogers breaks his allies out of the high-security prison where they were held and goes into hiding. On the other hand, Zemo's actions have successfully sowed deep discord within the Avengers, attaining his objective even as he deals with imprisonment.
