Plot Overview
"Enemy Mine" is a 1985 sci-fi movie directed by Wolfgang Petersen. It follows the unique bond and stark survival realities in between two individuals from various sides of a deep space war. Embed in the future, where earthly beings and an alien race referred to as the Dracs are involved in conflict, the story begins when 2 fighter pilots - human Dennis Quaid (Willis 'Willie' E. Davidge) and Drac Louis Gossett Jr. (Jeriba 'Jerry' Shigan) both crash-land on a desolate planet.

The two sworn opponents, at first suspicious and hostile towards each other, are required to work together for their survival on the deserted world. With minimal resources and an environment filled with unknown dangers, the duo begins to depend on each other to sustain.

Cultural Differences and Bond Formation
The film portrays various cultural distinctions between the human and the Drac, particularly in the locations of religion, child-rearing, and societal structure. As the plot progresses, the once opponents get mutual respect and form a deep friendship. Davidge finds out Drac language and culture from Jerry and discovers that Jerry is a hermaphrodite and is pregnant.

The Birth of Zammis
When Jerry brings to life a kid called Zammis, his health deteriorates, and he dies quickly afterwards. He imparts his lineage knowledge to his child through Davidge based on their culture. Davidge, left to raise Zammis, continues to support the Drac's ways of life and teaches the young Drac the family tree history handed down by Jerry.

Rescue and Separation
Years pass, and Davidge, regardless of having a number of opportunities to leave the world, selects to stay with Zammis. Lastly, when people save him, he is forcibly separated from Zammis, who is recorded by area scavengers exploiting the Dracs. Davidge, not able to forget his dedication to Jerry, decides to return and save Zammis.

Climax and Resolution
Disguised as a scavenger, Davidge reaches the base where Zammis is being held. After a desperate fight, he manages to free Zammis, exposing the human's exploitation of Dracs to the authorities. Ultimately, Davidge takes Zammis back to the Drac homeworld and shares the understanding of Jerry's family tree with the Drac senior citizens, thus satisfying his pledge to Jerry.

Conclusion
"Enemy Mine" extends beyond its narrative of survival to investigate themes of understanding, acceptance, and regard for cultural distinctions, and creating unlikely friendship amidst hostility. Though a nail-biting space experience initially, it profoundly explores anti-war sentiment and reviews unethical human exploitations. Davidge's transformation from opponent to friend, surrogate moms and dad, and ally highlights compassion and the capacity of people to alter - no matter which side of the war line they exist on. In essence, this traditional 80s film exceeds being a mere sci-fi adventure to stand as a long-lasting parable on friendship and shared humanity.
