Evgeniy's hobby is to send fake letters to real countries. He has collected a letter from every country except New Zealand, and he sends a letter there. Things turn worst when he actually receives a letter from someone there.

Overview
"Envelope" is a Russian brief movie directed by Academy Award winner, Aleksey Nuzhnyy, and released in 2012. The film stars Kevin Spacey and Alanna Ubach and is produced by Dana Brunetti. Set throughout the Cold War, the film is based on the strange life of a hardworking Russian author, Evgeniy Petrovich.

Plot
The film starts by presenting Evgeniy Petrovich (Kevin Spacey), a guy who makes his living by writing stories. Petrovich is an imaginative author who constructs imaginary tales about nations he has never ever visited. His most notable works are his fabricated stories about the United States, a country that, due to the strained political climate of the Cold War era, he can only imagine.

Fixation with Mailed Envelopes
Petrovich's life takes an intriguing turn when he establishes a fascination with mailed envelopes. In spite of the risk of being considered a spy, he begins gathering envelopes from all over the world, particularly from America. Petrovich is comprehensive, as he records detailed notes of the senders' addresses, recipients, postage stamps, and postmarks. This mysterious affair fuels his imagination further, allowing him to spin even more brilliant and accurate tales about the United States.

Unforeseen Plans
One day, Petrovich gets an envelope from America without any return address. Curious and thrilled, he opens the envelope to discover it empty. This ignites his interest and confusion, but he ultimately shrugs it off as an error. Later, he gets another similar envelope, further deepening the mystery for him.

Climax
As Petrovich's fascination with the weird envelopes continues to grow, he starts thinking of the plausible story behind every one. The empty envelopes fuel his imagination, leading him to picture a tale that records the supposed injustice and chaos behind them. He creates a captivating yet terrible story of a daddy sending empty envelopes to his child as a way of quiet demonstration versus the overbearing program throughout the Cold War.

Ending
The movie takes a twist when Petrovich learns that he's going to pass away soon. Choosing to leave a tradition behind, Petrovich shares the tragic story he has developed from the empty envelopes. The story is published and becomes a testament to Petrovich's abundant creativity, winning him substantial awards posthumously.

"Envelope" is less about the life of the author and more about the vivid imagination that words can trigger. The movie concludes with a poignant message: the value and effect of storytelling, even reflecting truths in its purest imaginary form.

Characters
Apart from Petrovich, the movie introduces Alanna Ubach, who plays the role of Claire, a fellow writer and Petrovich's friend. She listens attentively to Petrovich's tales and helps him publish his last story.

Thought-Provoking Themes
"Envelope" is filled with underlying themes of life, guts, and the power of imagination. Through Petrovich's remarkable story, we attest to a life led with audacity and a distinct perception of reality. Despite the political stress, Petrovich defies the chances, highlights the human connection across borders and uses insightful reflections on life and death. The film is a sincere homage to authors, the art of storytelling, and the power of the creativity.
