Overview
"FearDotCom" is a 2002 horror-thriller movie directed by William Malone and starring Stephen Dorff, Natascha McElhone, Stephen Rea, and Udo Kier. The film revolves around a fatal site, feardotcom.com, that leads its visitors to experience terrifying hallucinations and pass away of shock 48 hours later on. The plot follows an investigator and a health department researcher on a hunt to resolve the secret behind this lethal phenomenon.

Plot
The movie begins with a cyber addict going to the eerie site feardotcom.com and dying soon after due to extreme fear. NYPD Detective Mike Reilly (Stephen Dorff) and Department of Health scientist Terry Huston (Natascha McElhone) team up to examine his untimely death. As more victims fall prey to the website, all showing high fever and terrified expressions at their time of death, they suspect that these deaths might not be natural.

Terry, in an attempt to make some headway, goes to the site and begins experiencing disturbing hallucinations. Paradoxically, while they are examining the eliminating spree, another video game is being performed by a serial killer called Alistair Pratt (Stephen Rea) on his site. Pratt, a vicious physician, transmits the torture and murder of his victims survive on his website, leading Reilly to think a connection in between the two.

The Deadly Fear
The private investigators are trapped in a tight-timed race as they have just 48 hours to resolve the case before the fear from the site kills them. The game turns deadlier as Terry herself succumbs to the lethal site. The hallucinations reveal a young girl who was among Pratt's victims, suggesting the spirits of Alistair's victims seeking vengeance through the website.

The Conclusion
As the death clock ticks, Terry and Reilly unearth the truth, linking both the site feardotcom.com and Alistair Pratt's dreadful live streaming in the series of deaths. They find that the young girl in their visions was Pratt's very first victim whose ghost fuels feardotcom.com. Meanwhile, Pratt captures Terry in his vengeance video game against Reilly, looming a dual-threat over her life - the website's curse and Pratt's vicious strategies.

Reilly challenges Pratt and manages to eliminate him while rescuing Terry. Nevertheless, it's far too late for Terry as she has already caught the curse of the fatal site. The motion picture ends on a disturbing note with another unsuspecting victim logging onto feardotcom.com, signifying the loop of terror may continue.

Critical Reception
"FearDotCom" was a commercial and crucial failure, notching a poor 3% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics berated the film's dull plot, poor execution, and over-reliance on scary category clichés. Though the concept of a killer website seeded intrigue, the movie was criticized for its failure to take advantage of this into a compelling story.
