Introduction
"Girls in Prison" is a 1994 American made-for-television drama movie directed by John McNaughton and starring Anne Heche, Ione Skye, and Jon Polito. The movie, produced by Showtime Networks, is set in the 1950s America and follows the story of a girl wrongfully convicted of a criminal offense and her subsequent experiences and has a hard time in an all-women's jail.

Plot Synopsis
The film's central character is Anne Carson (played by Anne Heche), a naïve and aspiring author from a village. Anne is hired to write the unapproved bio of Estelle Carson, her idol and a popular Hollywood actress. She chooses to move to Los Angeles to work on the project. Nevertheless, when she shows up in LA, she rapidly learns that the starlet she appreciated is not the kind-hearted and generous individual she had pictured. Estelle is a self-absorbed and manipulative female.

While visiting an unlawful abortion clinic to help her roommate out, Anne is subpoenaed to affirm against the clinic in a grand jury trial. Despite being informed that her name will not be exposed, Anne declines to work together and ends up being charged with contempt. The judge, who is covertly a good friend of Estelle, decides to make an example of Anne, sentencing her to a long prison term.

Anne is sent out to an all-women's prison, where she is subjected to extreme bullying and assault by both guards and prisoners. She is befriended by a diverse group of fellow inmates, including Carol (played by Ione Skye), a rebellious lesbian who has remained in and out of prison various times; June (played by Bahni Turnpin), a warm-hearted African-American female who is pregnant; and Helen (played by Willa Damon), a strong and challenging female with powerful connections on the inside.

Conflict and Climax
Throughout her time in prison, Anne's innocence and naivety are checked, and she experiences a lot of suffering. Furthermore, Carol and Anne's friendship eventually develops into a romantic relationship, more making complex Anne's experience and triggering tensions within the group. As time goes on, Anne discovers how to browse the corrupt jail system and begins to form a strategy to expose those who have actually betrayed her and to secure her freedom.

Concurrently, cops press reporter Paddy Monahan (played by Jon Polito) takes an interest in Anne's case and gradually reveals the conspiracy behind her conviction. He starts working to show Anne's innocence and to bring the true criminals and corrupt officials to justice.

The movie reaches its climax when Helen, who is a high-ranking mobster's girlfriend, uses her connections to plan a jail riot. Through this mayhem, Anne discovers an opportunity to get away, however ultimately, she decides to remain and fight for her liberty instead of end up being a fugitive. Anne's loyal group of pals helps her gather proof of the injustices and abuse suffered by the prisoners, and Monahan uses his position as a press reporter to expose these problems.

Conclusion
After a tense climax and numerous weaves, the jail warden and corrupt guards who have been torturing the prisoners are exposed, jailed, and nabbed. Anne is exonerated, the real circumstances of her case are finally exposed, and the miscarriage of justice is reversed. Anne, now much more powerful and more assertive, leaves prison an altered and empowered lady, accompanied by her fellow inmates who have been given parole.
