In the near future, oil reserves are nearly depleted and Europe is connected by series of underground tunnels. While navigating these tunnels, Roger hears voices, one in particular. Seeking a way to rid himself of the voice only leads Roger deeper into a bizarre conspiracy of control - mind and body.

Overview
"Metropia" is a 2009 sci-fi thriller animated film directed by Tarik Saleh and produced by Kristina Åberg. The film is a Swedish-Danish-Norwegian co-production and features the voice cast of Vincent Gallo, Juliette Lewis, Udo Kier, Stellan Skarsgård, and Alexander Skarsgård. The story is embeded in a dystopian future where a scarcity of resources has led to the unification of Europe's train systems.

Plot
"Metropia" occurs in 2024 when the world's natural resources are depleted. Europe is now connected by a large web of underground trains, run by an ominous business referred to as 'Trexx.' The movie follows a typical man called Roger Olsson, a call center agent living in Stockholm who begins to hear a voice in his head.

Roger is pestered by fear and feels continuously observed. He thinks that his life is somehow being controlled by another person. After noticing that shampoo from Trexx has microchips, he starts discovering an enormous conspiracy. He becomes convinced that his mind is somehow being interacted with via the microchips in the shampoo developed by the Trexx corporation.

Roger's Adventure and the Conspiracy
Roger crosses courses with the beautiful and strange Nina, who is the design for the Trexx advertisements. He finds that the voice in his head comes from a man called Stefan, who seems to understand too much about Roger and initially is considered to be harmful. Roger and Nina collaborate to examine the tricks of Trexx.

The much deeper Roger looks into the plan, the more dangerous his life becomes. He spirals into a web of lies, espionage, and love on his journey. The voice in Roger's head turns out to be a controlling mechanism used by the Trexx Corporation. Stefan, whose voice Roger hears, is a reluctant magnate of Trexx, required to manage other people's minds to keep his ill child alive.

Revealing the Truth and Conclusion
In the climax, Roger and Nina successfully infiltrate Trexx, revealing the sneaky strategy of the corporate empire using mind control for financial conquest. The consciousness-controlling technology is destroyed, freeing everyone's minds, consisting of Stefan.

In the end, a large majority of the city's population is freed from Trexx's mind-controlling grip, leading to disorderly but liberating scenes in the subway system. After prospering in their objective, Roger and Nina part ways and start their brand-new life in a world marked by potentially confident uncertainty.

Important Reception
The movie, Metropia, received blended reviews from critics, earning praise for its unique and bleak animation and a compelling facility, but slammed for a somewhat confounding plot. Its unique style has actually been referred to as paranoiac and Kafkaesque. The movie amassed a number of awards and elections, cementing its place in the specific niche of animated sci-fi thrillers. In spite of the mixed reviews, "Metropia" is applauded for its ambitious concept and cautionary tale about the dangers of business power and the loss of individuality.
