One Missed Call Poster

Several people start receiving voice-mails from their future selves -- messages which include the date, time, and some of the details of their deaths.

Film Summary
"One Missed Call" is a 2008 supernatural horror film directed by Eric Valette and stars Shannyn Sossamon, Edward Burns, Ana Claudia Talancon, and Ray Wise. It is a remake of Takashi Miike's 2003 Japanese horror film of the very same name, based upon the Yasushi Akimoto novel.

Plot Summary
The film follows the life of Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon), a psychology student who is distressed after seeing the inexplicable death of 2 good friends, Leann (Azura Skye) and Shelley (Meagan Good). Both receive cooling voicemails detailing the precise time and nature of their deaths.

The Mystery Unravels
The horror starts when Shelley gets a voicemail from her future self, portraying her death by drowning. In a horrifying turn of occasions, Shelley is found dead, drowned in a pond near a building site. Overwhelmed, Beth confides in Detective Jack Andrews (Edward Burns), whose sibling also passed away under similar odd situations. Meanwhile, their shared pal, Brian Soon, receives a comparable call sharing the date and time of his death.

Coming across The Beast
After Brian's death, Beth gets a missed out on call from herself in the future, hearing her own scary passing away screams. Desperate to unravel the mystery and cheated death, Beth and Jack venture into determining the ominous links to these deaths. They discover that all victims had a red sweet and dead caller's picture in their mouths. In addition, they find out that the victims had briefly met a lady named Marie Layton who had presumably mistreated her 2 daughters, Ellie and Laurel, and blamed Ellie for their ill fate.

Supernatural Revelation
Further exploration led them to a healthcare facility where they find Marie's cadaver. As soon they will burn her body to break the curse chain, Laurel's spirit materialized and killed her mother, exposing her as the real abuser who was eliminated by Ellie. They burn both bodies, rendering them powerless, in theory, stopping the chain of criminal calls.

Final Twists
Eliminated, yet still in grief, Beth clears her missed calls and receives another message from her doomed self, seen from Jack's point of view, suggesting the curse remains. As Beth turns around, Jack's horrified face exposes a hidden fate as the film ends suddenly.

Conclusion
"One Missed Call" is a spine-chilling horror movie that draws heavily on innovation, using universal stress and anxiety around missed calls and messages. The movie presents a compelling tale of a curse and a gripping mystery, integrated with supernatural elements and unforeseen twists, opening a brilliant brand-new chapter in the scary category.
