While trying to get away from their clutches, Oscar gets inadvertently involved in the death of a shark called Frankie. Seeing this as a chance to rise the social hierarchy, Oscar declares he killed the shark, earning him the title of 'Sharkslayer' and a huge influx of popularity and affection.

In fact, Frankie's death was at the hand of a dropped anchor, a mishap seen by his vegetarian brother Lenny, voiced by Jack Black. Guilty and afraid, Lenny looks for help from Oscar asking him to help pretend his own death to leave his household. Oscar consents to keep his deceitful image of a 'Sharkslayer'.
