Introduction
"The Awakening" is a 1980 British horror movie directed by Mike Newell and including Charlton Heston, Susannah York, and Stephanie Zimbalist. It was based upon the 1903 novel "The Jewel of Seven Stars" by Bram Stoker of Dracula fame. The plot focuses on an archaeologist, a millennia-old Egyptian queen, and a treacherous mission for immortality.

Plot Summary
Charlton Heston represents Matthew Corbeck, a popular archaeologist who becomes our lead character. He is consumed with the forgotten Queen Kara, an ancient Egyptian ruler. Throughout an expedition in Egypt, Corbeck finds the burial place of Kara, deeply persuaded that finding her tomb will make history. Nevertheless, his obsession for the discovery strains his relationship with his pregnant other half, Anne, played by Jill Townsend, who leaves him.

Eighteen years later, Corbeck and his erstwhile research study assistant, Jane Turner, handle to open the burial place, but they unknowingly release a cursed spirit. Meanwhile, Corbeck's separated child, Margaret, played by Stephanie Zimbalist, experiences a series of nightmares that mysteriously get in touch with her daddy's recent archaeological discovery. Unbeknownst to Corbeck, Queen Kara's spirit has picked his child as her vessel to reincarnate and get immortality.

Dispute and Climax
The movie takes a dreadful turn when Margaret's participation with her daddy's discovery escalates. Her personality slowly alters, handling specific attributes of Queen Kara as the spirit tries to completely manage her body. Suspense develops as Corbeck gradually realizes the harmful consequences of his discovery, as individuals involved in the expedition start all of a sudden passing away under mystical and supernatural circumstances.

Corbeck deals with painful dilemmas. He should save both his child, now had by Kara's spirit, and his own life after understanding that he may be next on the death list. In an extreme climax, Corbeck is required to take drastic action to free his child from the Queen's possession and stop Kara's violent quest for immortality.

Conclusion
"The Awakening" handles to combine the elements of archaeological adventure with an eerie scary narrative, hence offering a special mix that keeps the audience on their toes. Heston's performance as the driven yet flawed lead character is good. The supporting characters each bring their own remarkable depth to the story, making the film a remarkable watch.

Regardless of tales of cursed tombs providing a well-trodden course within the horror genre, "The Awakening" manages to add fresh twists and intrigue to keep the audience's interest. Nevertheless, the movie's real strength lies not simply in the scary events but also in the relationships between Corbeck, his daughter, and his former research study assistant Jane - providing a mournful situational irony that stems from Corbeck's ruthless pursuit of historic splendor. And it is this which eventually raises "The Awakening" from being simply another horror film to a more profound tale of fixation and fathership.

Important Response
The film received blended reactions from critics. While some praised its effective blend of scary and drama, others found it uneven and less appealing. However, almost all settled on the impressive efficiencies of the cast, particularly Charlton Heston. No matter the different vital reception, "The Awakening" continues to offer an entertaining and chilling watch for fans of horror and Egyptian folklore.
