Summary:
"The Clown at Midnight" is a classic horror and thriller motion picture directed by Jean Pellerin and released in 1998. The plot focuses on a group of high school drama students tasked to restore a deserted opera home where a gruesome murder happened many years back. Unbeknownst to them, the murderer, a frightening clown, is still lurking in the shadows.

Main Plot:
Seven high school drama students are chosen by their drama teacher, Ms. Ellen Gibby, to clean and restore the abandoned opera home. The opera home has a dark history - it's the scene of a gruesome murder. An opera singer, Lorraine Sedgewick, was brutally killed by her co-star and secret enthusiast, Lorenzo savvy, who played Pagliacci the clown, out of jealousy in the past. As the students collect pieces of the past, it becomes evident that the murderous clown is still present. It rapidly takes most of their lives, one by one, in the most scary ways, making it a thrilling journey for viewers.

Characters:
The main characters consist of the drama teacher, Ms. Gibby (Margot Kidder), the protagonist Kate (Sarah Lassez), her buddy Monica (Liz Crawford), Kate's sweetheart George (James Duval), classmate and joker Taylor (Tatyana Ali), and other classmates: Eddie, Martin, and Larry. The antagonist is the murderous clown, who later is exposed to be somebody the group understands well.

Discovery and Climax:
After a number of gruesome murders, Kate finds that their drama instructor, Ms. Gibby, was in fact the better half of the murderous clown, Lorenzo. She deduces that it might be the cruel Gibby who lags the killings. However, she is proven wrong when she discovers Gibby dead, recognizing that the principal of their school, Mr. Caruthers, is the real killer. Caruthers, a former police officer, had actually eliminated Lorenzo years ago, adopting his personality to kill once again.

A conflict takes place in between Kate and Caruthers, with the principal turned killer in pursuit of the making it through students. However, the trainees effectively deceive the killer, leading him to a trap that leads to his death.

Conclusion:
In the end of "The Clown at Midnight", just Kate and her fellow trainee Martin make it through, establishing a bonding scene that recommends a romantic interest between them. As the credits roll, we hear the sound of a clown's laughter, leaving an uncertain question on whether the scary genuinely ended or not?
