Plot IntroductionThe story unfolds in 2 time zones - 1965 and 1997. In 1997, former Mossad representatives Rachel Singer (Helen Mirren) and Stefan Gold (Tom Wilkinson) are well known nationwide heroes in Israel for their mission in 1965 East Berlin, where they assassinated a war criminal named Dieter Vogel (Jesper Christensen), infamous as 'The Surgeon of Birkenau', responsible for abusing and killing Jews throughout World War II.
Flashbacks to the PastThe motion picture often flashes back to 1965, remembering the events of the objective. A younger Rachel (Jessica Chastain), Stefan (Marton Csokas) and David Peretz (Sam Worthington) are revealed as a part of a concealed operation to catch and execute Vogel. Regardless of the objective becoming harmful and complex, they manage to kidnap Vogel and put him in a safe home to discreetly return him to Israel.
The TwistAs the movie development, it is exposed that Vogel got away before they might transport him back to Israel, making the agents decide to report him dead. The decision took a toll on them, especially David, who dedicated suicide after Rachel declined his marriage proposal in favour of Stefan.
Discovery and ResolutionIn 1997, Rachel gains from Stefan, now ex-husband and partly paralyzed, that a man declaring to be Vogel has actually surfaced in a Ukraine psychological hospital. Feeling guilty for their shared lie and due to Stefan's condition, she uses up the task to eliminate Vogel.
After an extreme face-off, culminating in Rachel eliminating Vogel in defense as he attacks her, she goes back to Israel. She tells her daughter the genuine story, prompting her to write the reality if she selects to release a book about the mission.
