An adaptation of the classic, "The Prince and the Pauper" is the retelling of Edward Tudor and young Thomas Canty, two amazing look-alikes caught up in imperial intrigue and scandal. In fleeing from his violent father, Tom stumbles into the palace courtyard, and is seen by young Prince Edward, who takes him in. Each desiring to see what the other's life is like, the boys impulsively switch identities... little knowing what disaster lies ahead at this fault of thought. And soon Thomas becomes a pawn in the hands of Edward's malicious and greedy uncle, who would have the kingdom for himself.

Overview

Plot
The tale opens in 16th century England with the birth of two boys, Edward, a prince and Tom Canty, a pauper. Edward (Jonathan Timmins) is privileged, being born as the prince of England, in a life of wealth and grandeur while Tom (Robert Timmins), on the other hand, resides in abject poverty, with a violent dad who uses him for begging.

They unintentionally stumble upon each other one day as Tom slips into the royal palace, and are both stunned by their remarkable resemblance. They choose to trade places for fun, preparing for the adventure of the opposing lifestyle. Edward, wanting freedom, ventures into London pretending to be Tom while Tom luxuriates in the palace dressed as Edward. The palace guards, however, throw away Edward together with the Canty household, misinterpreting him for the impostor.

Drama & Unraveling
The story unfolds how the boys battle and manage their recently assumed lives. Tom enjoys the royal treatment, in spite of his initial ineptness, but is overwhelmed by the duties of a prince. Edward, dealing with the extreme truths of Tom's life, genuinely understands the distress of his individuals living in squalor while experiencing the lowly treatment of a pauper.

Meanwhile, the ailing King Henry VIII (Aidan Quinn) is passing away, and Tom needs to grudgingly enter his shoes. Edward ends up being kidnapped by Tom's harsh dad who discovers who Edward really is. Edward manages to get away and go back to the royal palace.

Resolution
In a thrilling climax, an unnerved Edward nearly misses out on the crowning and his opportunity to expose his real identity, but he makes it in time. He determines himself as the true Prince of England by responding to questions that just a prince might know, conserving Tom from an unsure fate. Tom likewise guarantees him, exposing their significant switch. Edward rises the throne, with a newfound knowledge about his kingdom due to his lived experience as a pauper.
