Her powers showed too much for those around her, triggering her mother to devote an unthinkable act. After being pressed into a well, Samara passed away however her spirit remained, filled with rage and seeking retribution through the cursed videotape. The ghost of Samara ends up being a relentless entity that terrorizes anybody who enjoys the tape unless they copy it and pass it on to another person.

As Rachel explores Samara's past, she discovers the well where Samara's body was thrown.
