With their dream of a New York lifestyle out of reach and not able to afford their home mortgage, they soon face the extreme reality of their scenario. They decide to experiment with an easier way of living, away from the metropolitan rat race.

While on their method to Atlanta where they plan to deal with George's hated bro Rick, they spend the night at Elysium, a picturesque neighborhood occupied with colorful characters who welcome a free-spirited, alternative way of life. These include the charismatic Seth (played by Justin Theroux), philosophical master Carvin (Alan Alda), free-spirited Eva (Malin Åkerman), and other eccentric residents.

Charmingly persuaded by the allure of this non-conventional commune, they choose to remain and offer the hippie lifestyle a chance, all total with free love, organic food, and rejection of both monogamy and product possessions.
