This quote by Archibald MacLeish speaks with the suggestion that life is lived in the physical world, not in the realm of concepts. Life contains ups and also downs, and also no matter what an individual experiences, it can never be completely ridiculous or entirely the opposite of silly. MacLeish is suggesting that life is a complicated mix of both, and that it is difficult to have a life that is completely one or the other. He is highlighting that life is unpredictable which it is difficult to know what will certainly take place following. He is also suggesting that life is a trip and that it is necessary to approve the excellent as well as the negative that includes it. Inevitably, MacLeish is encouraging us to accept life as well as to take advantage of it, whatever it tosses our way.
