This quote suggests that when somebody is too kind, they can be benefited from and at some point become the sufferer of cruelty. It suggests that compassion can be viewed as a weakness and can be manipulated by those that are terrible. It also recommends that kindness should be balanced with toughness as well as care in order to secure oneself from coming to be a target of cruelty.
