This could be interpreted as a person who is so passionate about a specific idea that they become consumed with it, to the point where it becomes their sole focus. This might be a favorable or unfavorable trait, depending upon the concept in concern. For example, a person who is madly committed to a cause or a project might be seen as admirable, while somebody who is madly committed to a devastating or damaging idea might be viewed as hazardous. Eventually, the term "mad" is used to describe someone who is so enthusiastic about a single concept that it becomes their sole focus, no matter whether it is viewed as positive or unfavorable.
