"On stage, I am in the dark"

This quote by Maria Callas speaks to the idea of being in the spotlight and the vulnerability that includes it. On phase, Callas was in the dark in the sense that she was exposed to the audience and their judgement. She was putting herself out there, and the audience had the power to make or break her performance. This quote also speaks to the concept of remaining in the dark in regards to the unidentified. As a performer, Callas was never ever sure how the audience would react to her performance, and she was continuously in the dark about how her performance would be gotten. This quote speaks with the nerve and strength it takes to put yourself out there and take a risk. It is a suggestion that even when we are in the dark, we can still discover the nerve to take dangers and put ourselves out there.
