"Prosperity is no just scale; adversity is the only balance to weigh friends"

- Plutarch

About this Quote

This quote by Plutarch speaks to the suggestion that real friendship is only exposed in times of hardship. When life is going well, it is very easy to be surrounded by people that more than happy to be in your business. However, when life deviates for the worse, it is only then that you can absolutely see who your real good friends are. Prosperity can be an incorrect action of relationship, as it is only in times of adversity that you can see who will wait you and who will certainly desert you. Adversity is the just true action of friendship, as it is just in these times that you can see that will certainly be there for you and that will certainly not. Real relationship is not based on what you can do for a person, but instead on what somebody wants to do for you in times of need.
