"The reason why the Son of God took upon him our nature, was, the fall of our first parents"
- George Whitefield
About this Quote
George Whitefield's quote speaks to the purpose of Jesus Christ's incarnation. According to Christian theology, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and he handled human kind in order to redeem humankind from the consequences of the Fall. The Fall refers to the disobedience of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, which resulted in the separation of humanity from God. By taking on human kind, Jesus was able to bridge the space between God and humankind, and to provide a method for humanity to be reconciled with God. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus had the ability to bring back the relationship in between God and humanity that had actually been broken by the Fall. In this method, Jesus' version was a reaction to the Fall of our first moms and dads, and was needed for mankind to be reconciled with God.
