Jimi Hendrix Biography
James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born as Johnny Allen Hendrix in Seattle, Washington, US) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is often regarded as one of the most style-makers and sources of inspiration in rock history. At the same time he is seen as one of the best guitarist in various genres, and most of today's rock and blues guitarists mention Hendrix as one of their inspirations. His guitar technique and style, along with inventive use of effects pedals and his control of feedback, made him a unique artist.
Hendrix was first introduced in England in 1966, along with his band The
Jimi Hendrix Experience. He was also star in the U.S. after he appeared at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. He achieved iconic status for his performance as the main attraction at the Woodstock Festival in August 1969.
As a guitarist, he was inspired by blues guitarists including BB King,
Muddy Waters, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, T-Bone Walker, Albert King,
Link Wray. Style-wise, he has also taken inspiration from soul guitarists like
Steve Cropper and Curtis Mayfield.
Carlos Santana says that he was also influenced by his Native American background.

Little Richard's backing band, The Upsetters. One of his great idols were
Bob Dylan, and he always brought his records when he was traveling. He played the guitar left-handed, but wrote with his right hand.
He was inducted into the Rock honorary gallery in 1992, and in the United Kingdom Music Hall of Fame in 2005. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. In 2006, his debut album, Are You Experienced, committed in the United States Recording Preservation Board's National Registry. Music magazine Rolling Stone put Hendrix at number 1 on their list of all-time greatest guitarists ever.
