Editorial Standards

FixQuotes has been a reference for quotes, biographies, and literature since 2012. These are the standards we hold our content to — and how we keep it accurate.

Who we are

FixQuotes is an independent reference dedicated to quotes and the people behind them. Our goal is simple: help you find the right words, and trust who really said them. We have been online since 2012.

How our content is made

We build entries from published, verifiable sources. Content is researched, organized, and drafted with the help of modern tools, and then checked against original sources before anything is presented as verified. For quotes specifically, we trace attributions back to primary and authoritative sources — see how we verify quotes for the full process and the labels we use (Verified, Later attribution, Disputed).

Accuracy and honesty about uncertainty

We aim to be accurate, and to be honest when we are not certain. When a source cannot be confirmed, we say so rather than inventing one. We would always rather show “unverified” than present a guess as fact.

Corrections

If you spot an error — a wrong attribution, a date, or a fact — please tell us. You can use the “Help us find the source” link on any quote, or contact us directly. We review reader reports and update pages accordingly. The “Last updated” date shown on a page reflects its most recent change.

Independence

FixQuotes is reader-focused and editorially independent. No commercial relationship changes what we say about a quote, a person, or a work.

Sources we rely on

Our verification draws on trusted libraries and archives — including the Internet Archive, Project Gutenberg, Google Books, and Wikiquote — alongside reputable biographies and references. More detail is on our verification page.

Our commitments

  • Trace quotes to original sources.
  • Be honest about what is unverified.
  • Fix errors when readers flag them.
  • Stay editorially independent.
