Kurt Cobain's quote speaks with the idea of harmful masculinity and the danger it presents to those who do not conform to its stiff standards. He was most likely referring to the idea that guys who stick to traditional gender functions and expectations can be overbearing and daunting to those who do not. This might be seen in the manner in which macho guys typically use physical strength and aggression to assert their supremacy over others. Cobain was most likely expressing his discomfort with this type of behavior and the method it made him feel threatened. He was most likely also revealing his disappointment with the way that conventional gender functions can restrict individuals's liberty and expression. By speaking out versus the typical macho male, Cobain was promoting for a more inclusive and accepting society where everybody is totally free to express themselves without worry of judgement or injustice.
