His father was a famous surgeon of urology as a specialty and the mother was a dedicated suffragette who fought for birth control and women's emancipation. The family suffered a tragedy when the sixteen year old son Tom hanged himself during a visit to friends in New York.Hepburn was drawn to the scene at a young age and began playing the amateur age of twelve. She studied at the famous Women's University Bryn Mawr and graduated 1928th During university, she had acted in several school plays and soon after graduation, she managed to get småroller on Broadway. The same year she married the wealthy Ludlow Ogden Smith, who belonged to one of Pennsylvania's finest families. The marriage ended in divorce in 1934, then Hepburn decided to seriously invest in the film. She had received her first film role in 1932 in the Bill of divas Cement against John Barrymore. She came to make an additional fifty films over the years. 1999 American Film Institute ranked Hepburn as the leading actress in American film history. She won four Oscar statuettes for Best Actress, got twelve nomineringer for Best Actress and received an Emmy Award for starring in "Love Among the Ruins". She was also nominated for four other Emmys and two Tony Awards during his 70-year career. She was considered for many years as an outsider in Hollywood - she was walking around town dressed in long pants, refused to give interviews or sign autographs, did not associate with other Hollywood celebrities and was very secretive regarding his private life. Hepburn lived from 1942 to 1967 with Spencer Tracy. They met on the set of Woman of the Year in 1942 and played in nine films together. Tracy was unhappily married, but his Catholic faith and his own conscience forbade divorce. Their 25-year romance became a legend in Hollywood, a tender, respectful and very private affair, as everyone knew but no one gossiped about.
