Her full name is Catherine Lisa Bell, and she is the child of Scotsman Peter Bell, an architect, and Iranian Mina Ezzati, a nurse. When Catherine was two years old, her parents separated, and she and her mother moved to San Fernando Valley, California.

Growing up in the United States, Catherine became interested in modeling and acting early on. She attended the prominent Our Lady of Corvallis High School in Los Angeles, where she took part in numerous school productions.
