Everett McKinley Dirksen was an American Republican politician. He was minority leader in the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 1969. He played an essential role behind the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the Act on civil rights.

Dirksen quit of University of Minnesota College of Law to join the First World War. He later on researched law at the new 1936 and finished his legislation degree.
