FixQuotes.com ("we", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Usage & device data: IP address, browser, device type, pages viewed, and referrers.
Client IP addresses: stored specifically to record quote views and voting activity. This helps us prevent duplicate counts and abuse.
Contact data you submit: When you use forms (e.g., submit a quote or contact us), we collect the data you provide.

Cookies, Local Storage & Shortlist

The Shortlist feature stores your saved quotes in your browser's localStorage on your device. This data never leaves your device unless you export or share it. Clearing your browser data or using the "Clear" action on the Shortlist will remove it.

Examples: a key like shortlist may hold your saved quote IDs.
Control: You can clear or block site data in your browser settings. Some features may not work without local storage or cookies.

Browser Extension

The FixQuotes Browser Extension (available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox) does not collect, store, or share any personal user data. It communicates only with FixQuotes.com to fetch the daily quote feed. The extension stores your display preferences (text/image mode) locally in your browser using localStorage, which never leaves your device.

Discord & Slack Bots

The FixQuotes Discord Bot and FixQuotes Slack Bot deliver the Quote of the Day and respond to slash commands in servers and workspaces. When you interact with either bot:

What we store: If a server or workspace subscribes to daily quotes, we store the channel ID and server/workspace ID needed to deliver messages. We do not store usernames, message content, or access your conversations.
What we don't access: The bots cannot read your messages, access your DMs, or view channels they haven't been granted access to.
Usage data: We log command usage (which commands are used, which quotes are delivered, and the requesting user's platform ID) to improve the service and avoid repeating quotes. This data is used for service operation only and is not shared with third parties.
Unsubscribing: Admins can use /unsubscribe to stop daily quotes and remove the stored channel ID, or simply remove the bot from the server or workspace.

Summary: For Slack and Discord users, we store workspace/channel IDs for message delivery and log basic usage data for service improvement. We do not access or read user messages.

WordPress Plugin

The FixQuotes WordPress Plugin displays the Quote of the Day on WordPress websites.

Data retrieved: The plugin fetches quote data (quote text, author name, author URL, image URLs) from FixQuotes.com via our public JSON feed.
Data sent: Only standard HTTP requests are made. No visitor data is collected or transmitted by the plugin.
Caching: Quote data is cached locally on the WordPress site using WordPress transients (typically 1 hour) to improve performance.
Images: Quote images are served directly from FixQuotes.com CDN.

Summary: The WordPress plugin does not collect any personal information about website visitors. It only retrieves and displays publicly available quote content.

How We Use Information

To operate, maintain, and improve FixQuotes (including personalization and performance).
To record views and votes in a fair and non-duplicated manner (using IP addresses).
To process requests (e.g., quote submissions) and communicate with you.
To prevent abuse, secure the service, and comply with law.

Analytics

We use analytics tools to understand how visitors use FixQuotes and to improve usability and performance.

Google Analytics: Used to measure site usage (pages viewed, referrers, and general device/browser information). You can opt out with the GA Opt-out Add-on.

Legal Bases (EEA/UK/Norway)

Performance of a contract (e.g., processing your submissions).
Legitimate interests (running and improving the site, preventing duplicate votes, abuse prevention).
Consent (where required for analytics cookies or similar technologies).

Data Sharing

We don’t sell personal information. We may share limited data with service providers who help us operate the site (under appropriate safeguards), if required by law, or to protect rights and safety.

Data Retention

Server-side data: IPs for views and votes are stored only as long as needed to ensure fairness, prevent abuse, and maintain statistics.
Shortlist/localStorage: stored only in your browser until you clear it or it is removed by your browser.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Children's Privacy

FixQuotes is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

If we transfer data outside your region, we use appropriate safeguards (e.g., standard contractual clauses) where required.
