400 Days Poster

4 would be astronauts spend 400 days in a land locked space simulator to test the psychological effects of deep space travel but, when something goes terribly wrong and they are forced to leave the simulation, they discover that everything on earth has changed. Is this real or is the simulation on a higher level than they could have ever imagined?

Introduction
"400 Days" is a 2015 American psychological science fiction movie, directed and written by Matt Osterman. The motion picture features significant actors such as Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Ben Feldman and Tom Cavanagh. The movie majestically combines aspects of suspense, drama, and mystery, and uses the idea of space expedition as a pretext to examine the human minds under pressure and confinement.

Plot Synopsis
The film follows a team of astronauts, including Captain Theo (Brandon Routh), engineer Emily (Caity Lotz), tech geek Bug (Ben Feldman), and psychologist Dvorak (Dane Cook), who embark on a simulated deep space objective to the external borders of our solar system lasting 400 days. The simulation is developed to examine the mental tension effects that such a long-lasting space objective would have on astronauts. They are put in a simulator under the surface area to mimic a spacecraft setting for the whole duration.

Unraveling Events
At first, the group fearlessly faces issues such as isolation, monotony, and minor technical malfunctions. However, once they lose communication with objective control around day 300, the mental and emotional strain intensifies. The crew gets paranoid and suspicious. They start to question the authenticity of their mission and whether they are, in fact, still in the world or have they really been sent into deep space.

On the other hand, the line between truth and hallucination blurs for the employee, particularly when the stimulation machine goes offline due to an earthquake. In their attempt to find out what's going on, they choose to leave the simulator to explore their surrounding environment, only to discover it desolate with unusual beings vaguely looking like humans. This raises more concerns than answers.

Climax & Conclusion
The tension in between the team members reaches its climax when they are attacked by these "mutants" and forced to eliminate for their survival. Emily and Bug encounter a male who exposes they had remained in the bunker for more than 400 days indicating the possibility that a catastrophic event had actually taken place while they remained in the simulator, which erased life.

The story gets murkier as the specifics differentiate less between their supposed simulation and what may be a real-life disaster survival scenario. It ends on an uncertain note, leaving the audience to question whether the whole occurrence was a mental twist, the aftermath of a disaster, or an authentic space journey.

Thematic Exploration
Basically, "400 Days" is a mental exploration of human minds under serious stress conditions. The core idea revolves around the contrast in between reality and imagination, and how extended confinement and seclusion can misshape mental understandings. While the film leans heavily on the sci-fi genre, it mainly has fun with the unraveling mystery subplot, adding an element of thriller and fear.

Total Review
"400 Days" challenges audience's expectations with a distinct property and gripping performances from the cast. Though it leaves its finale purposefully unclear, it is this uncertainty that remains the film's most engaging feature, stimulating continuous idea and analysis. Its mix of psychological thriller with science fiction themes conjures an extreme movie theater experience that concurrently bewilders and captivates viewers.
