Daily Inspiration Quote by Buddha

"A man is not called wise because he talks and talks again; but if he is peaceful, loving and fearless then he is in truth called wise"

About this Quote

Wisdom is being stripped of performance here. Buddha aims at a target that still feels painfully current: the social prestige of sounding intelligent. "Talks and talks again" mocks not speech itself but the ego hidden inside it, the urge to equate fluency with insight. The line turns that assumption inside out. Wisdom, in this framing, is not display but disposition.

The choice of qualities matters. Peaceful, loving, fearless: they move from inner state to outward relation to existential stance. Peace suggests mastery over agitation and impulse. Loving shifts wisdom from private enlightenment to ethical presence among other people. Fearless completes the triad, because compassion without courage is fragile. Together they describe a person whose mind is not merely informed but transformed.

That is the deeper subtext: wisdom is legible in conduct. Buddha is speaking from a moral and spiritual context in which attachment, vanity, and craving distort perception. Endless talking can be one more form of attachment, a way the self tries to enlarge itself. By contrast, peace and love imply a loosening of that self-clutching. Fearlessness signals freedom from the anxieties that usually govern behavior: status, loss, death, humiliation.

The rhetoric is powerful because it is so plain. There is no ornament, only contrast. Speech, which most traditions prize, is deliberately demoted; character is promoted as the real evidence. For a historical religious leader, that move carries weight. He is not redefining wisdom as cleverness refined. He is redefining it as a mode of being that other people can actually feel in your presence.
