Time & Perspective Quote by Muhammad Iqbal

"Be not entangled in this world of days and nights; Thou hast another time and space as well"

About this Quote

Iqbal’s line is a spiritual shoulder-grab disguised as gentle counsel: don’t let the calendar and the clock recruit you into their small, anxious war. “Days and nights” aren’t just time units; they’re the machinery of routine, status, deadlines, wages, and worry. To be “entangled” is to be snagged by a net you didn’t notice being woven - the mundane turning sticky, then sovereign.

The pivot comes with “Thou hast,” a deliberate archaic intimacy that sounds scriptural without being preachy. Iqbal isn’t offering escapism so much as re-scaling the self. “Another time and space” suggests a second set of coordinates: the inward life, the moral imagination, the eternal. In Islamic philosophical terms, it nods toward the difference between the transient world (dunya) and a larger metaphysical horizon - but Iqbal’s move is also modern. Writing under British colonial rule and amid the churn of industrial modernity, he saw how a life can be administered into compliance: schedules, institutions, and inherited hierarchies training people to confuse survival with meaning.

The subtext is bracingly anti-fatalistic. If you possess “another” time and space, you’re not merely trapped inside history; you can act upon it. That’s classic Iqbal: a poet of selfhood (khudi) insisting that spiritual awakening is not withdrawal but agency. The line works because it refuses to flatter the reader’s comfort. It implies you’re already entangled - and also that you can cut the thread.
