Daily Inspiration Quote by Nikita Khrushchev

"Even now we feel that Stalin was devoted to Communism, he was a Marxist, this cannot and should not be denied"

About this Quote

Khrushchev’s line performs a delicate bit of political judo: it condemns Stalin without letting the system collapse on top of the condemner. Spoken by a statesman who owed his career to the Soviet machine, the sentence is built like a safety rail. “Even now” admits the present tense of disillusionment, the sense that after terror, purges, and the cult of personality, people are re-auditing the past. Yet Khrushchev insists on one unshakable credential: Stalin’s ideological devotion. Not “good,” not “just,” not “competent” - but “devoted.”

That choice matters. By framing Stalin as a true Marxist, Khrushchev quarantines the problem: the catastrophe wasn’t caused by insufficient faith in Communism, nor by betrayal of it. It was caused by the way power was wielded inside a one-party state. The subtext is a reassurance to Party elites and ordinary believers alike: you can denounce the man and still salute the doctrine. “Cannot and should not be denied” reads like a preemptive strike against two enemies at once - anti-Communists who want Stalin’s crimes to discredit Marxism, and internal rivals who might argue Stalin’s abuses prove he was never really “one of us.”

Contextually, this is de-Stalinization as damage control. Khrushchev is trying to reopen the future by rewriting the past: keep the revolution’s legitimacy intact, admit enough truth to stop the bleeding, and preserve the Party as the sole interpreter of what “Marxist” is allowed to mean.
