It implies humility and attention rather than control, a posture that anticipates later language about dignity and rights without using legalistic terms. “Help it toward completion” keeps the teleology but refuses coercion: development is real, but it’s not yours to dictate. The line smuggles a radical ethic into a gentle metaphor: the proper way to raise a human being is to treat them as already meaningful, and to act as if mishandling them is not merely bad practice, but a kind of spiritual vandalism.
