This quote by Marcus V. Pollio is referring to the way in which our assumption of an item can be changed depending on its setting. When a things is placed directly in front of us, we can observe it in wonderful detail and value its features. However, if the very same object is positioned over us, our sight of it is limited as well as we might not have the ability to value its features as a lot. Likewise, if the object is positioned in an enclosed area, such as a room, our view of it is restricted as well as we may not be able to value its features as high as if it were in an open room. This quote is highlighting the value of atmosphere in our understanding of an object, as well as exactly how it can substantially change our view of it.
