Allende writes from Latin America’s long shadow of dictatorship, inequality, and political violence, and from a feminist tradition that treats storytelling as a form of civic power. “Peace and prosperity” reads like the traditional prize promised by states; she relocates that promise in collective female agency. It works because it fuses hope with indictment: the world is failing, and we can name one of the most obvious reasons why.
