Senghor’s presidency leaned on synthesis - African cultural affirmation paired with a relatively close, controversial relationship to France. This line pre-justifies that posture. If you come from a crossroads, the subtext goes, you’re built to translate, to bargain, to hold contradictions without pretending they aren’t there. It’s a self-portrait as bridge - and a warning that the bridge is built over real divisions.
